The Municipality of Prespa is located in the northwestern tip of Greece, on the country’s border with Albania and North Macedonia.
You can access Prespa by car is following one of the following routes: via Florina or via Kastoria. The road from Florina is more scenic as you get closer to Prespa, as you pass the Vitsi/Vernon mountain, the Vigla ski resort and the villages of Pisoderi and Antartiko. The road from Kastoria is smoother and follows the valley carved by Ladopotamos.
There is also the possibility to reach the area by airplane, either by flying to Thessaloniki or to Argos Orestiko. Argos Orestiko is close to Kastoria (12km).
FROM ATHENS:
- (6.5 hours) by car from the Athens-Thessaloniki National Highway. Take the exit for Veria following the Egnatia Road to Kozani-Grevena. ALTERNATIVELY, the route with fewer kilometers and less time (approx. 5.5hrs) but lower speed is from Lamia-Trikala-Grevena. In both cases, take the Koritsa/Kastoria exit (vertical axis of Egnatia Street) and immediately after Kastoria at the Koromilia exit in order to cover fewer kilometers and avoid the tolls you will find on the road to Krystallopigi, from which you will make a small circle .
- (6.5-7 hours) by car via Olympia road to Patras and after Rio-Antirrio follow Ionia road. Take the exit to Koritsa/Kastoria and then to Koromilia (see above).
- (8 hours) by bus from Kifissou station to Florina or Kastoria. From both cities it is necessary to hire a car (or taxi) to access Prespa and travel within Prespa.
FROM THESSALONIKI
- (2 hours 40 minutes) by car from Egnatia street of Thessaloniki to Kozani. Take the exit for Kortsa/Kastoria. Immediately after Kastoria, take the Koromilia exit in order to cover fewer kilometers and avoid the tolls you will find on the road to Krystallopigi, from which you will make a small circle.
- (3.5 hours) by car from Thessaloniki to Giannitsa-Edessa-Florina.
- (2.5 hours) by bus from “Makedonia” station to Florina or Kastoria. From both cities it is necessary to hire a car (or taxi) to access Prespa and travel within Prespa.
