Producing organic

The Poliprespa programme (2018-2022) included projects that aimed at strengthening the economy, always with environmentally friendly practices. As the economy in Prespa is mainly based on the agricultural sector, action was taken to support organic or environmentally friendly practices in bean cultivation and beekeeping.

More specifically:

organic bean farmers were supported by field advisory services, a pilot project on intelligent farming and by the creation of packaging for retailing the product. All actions were implemented in cooperation with the American Farm School of Thessaloniki. Read the article here.

-analyses were carried out on the hive products (honey, propolis, pollen, royal jelly) of the stable beekeepers of Prespa to highlight their unique characteristics. Read the article here.

-More than 80 different species of plants were collected to be analyzed for their biological properties, with the aim to experimentally cultivate the most efficient ones in the future and have them as an alternative crop in the region. The analyses were carried out in collaboration with the Department of Pharmacy of the National Kapodistrian University of Athens.
