You just like me

28/8/21 | You Just Like Me

A three-day workshop on diversity and inclusion

The Municipal Library of Prespa, in collaboration with the Municipality of Prespa, the Municipal Public Benefit Enterprise of Prespa, the Society for the Protection of Prespa, and the Poliprespa program (donor: SNF), designed the program “You Just Like Me!”, which is being implemented with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports (ΥΠΠΟΑ) as part of actions for diversity.

On August 28, 29, and 30, 2021, a creative theater workshop for children and young people aged 14 to 20 was held. The book “Wonder” by R.J. Palacio served as the starting point and source of inspiration! The workshop aimed to enhance the creativity and imagination of young people through theatrical play, focusing on eliminating all forms of exclusion, racism, and stereotypes. The sessions were coordinated by the theater play facilitator, PhD, Martha Mavridou, who said:

“I have been collaborating with the library and with children who have grown up and live in Prespa since 2017. Practically, this means that I met some children in primary school, who are now in high school. From the first year, I was impressed by their acumen and sensitivity. I had the fortune to work on the same project simultaneously in a big city and with the Prespa library group, and I must admit that their empathy and perspectives captivated me. We had touched on the topic of diversity in our initial meetings, and it was the children who reminded me of it. As always, they amazed me with their original ideas and perceptions. As I watched them work, I thought about how in a place surrounded by mountains, there are so many young people with such broad horizons. Once again, I felt grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with them and, above all, for getting to know them.”

The result of the workshop was a touching video created by the children.
