2nd Annual Meeting of Stakeholders on the Waters and Wetlands of Prespa

The 2nd Annual Meeting of Stakeholders on the Waters and Wetlands of Prespa was held.
On Thursday, March 26, the Municipality of Prespa and the Society for the Protection of Prespa, in collaboration with the Prespa National Park Management Unit and the Western Macedonia Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, the 2nd Annual Meeting of Stakeholders on the region’s waters and wetlands was held in Laimos village, with the participation of representatives from local producer organizations, regional and national authorities, as well as scientific bodies.
At the meeting, the producer organizations presented the problems they faced due to the prolonged drought in 2025, the latest scientific data on the impacts of climate change in Prespa, particularly on bean cultivation, as well as the challenges faced by wetland ecosystems and waterbirds due to changes in lake water levels.
A review was conducted of the water level management measures for Lake Mikri Prespa, and measures, management objectives, and priorities for managing the water level of Lesser Prespa Lake in 2026 were discussed.
Above all, it was once again emphasized that the protection of Prespa is a matter of cooperation. This annual meeting on water and wetlands has now become an important institution for coordinating and jointly shaping solutions for the region’s future. Knowledge, dialogue, and joint action are the key tools for ensuring a sustainable future for the region’s nature and people.
