Lakes’ water level rised: new questions arise

While recent rains and winter snow have raised the lake level by over 60cm (reaching 853.58m), the ecosystem’s recovery is more complex than it looks. After a long period of drought, the parched soil absorbs water very slowly. This means that vital shallow areas for waterbirds and endemic fish are flooded only superficially, rather than truly replenished.
The key questions remain:🔹How much will the level rise?🔹How much water can we retain for the future without affecting crops & grazing?🔹Will birds have safe nesting grounds, or will water recede quickly again?
In a rapidly changing environment, the Society for the Protection of Prespa (SPP) is monitoring the situation daily, working to adapt to these new climate challenges and protect our shared natural heritage.
